Workflow Engine

A workflow engine is a software application that enables the automation and control of business processes. It coordinates the sequence of tasks that need to be carried out by different people or systems in order to achieve a defined goal.

The workflow engine receives a description of the workflow in the form of rules, conditions or graphical representations and then orchestrates the various steps and actions required to execute this workflow. It keeps track of progress, assigns tasks, triggers notifications and often also provides support for troubleshooting or restarting interrupted processes. A workflow engine is therefore particularly suitable for automating complex, repetitive or collaborative business processes.

Workflow engines are used in various industries and scenarios, whether in the processing of customer inquiries, project management, production control or administrative processes. They are considered the backbone for the digitalization of processes and contribute to increasing competitiveness.
