brix Breakfast Meetup February 2020 – Dynamic Database Publishing

14. February 2020 3 minutes

For the fourth time we hosted our brix Breakfast Meetup at the brix Academy. The topic Dynamic Database Publishing was the focus of the event. After a short intro by our CEO Roland Kannappel and the statement «Print is not dead – it's just gone digital», the word was handed over to Michael Lutz, CEO of Codeware GmbH.

With the Adobe InDesign plug-in Xactuell, Codeware provides the ability to publish information from various databases (such as product data from a PIM system and images from a DAM system) automatically and directly into a layout document – in print or digital format. This saves an enormous amount of time and money in the production of advertising material, as Marco Forster, Deputy Head of Graphics at Transgourmet Switzerland, presented in detail in his following presentation. Eight weekly and four additional catalogues with approx. 6'000 pages per year are produced by Transgourmet with a team of 6 people in 3 languages within a very short time and changes (especially prices) are possible until shortly before they start printing. The combination of Xactuell and CELUM DAM (Digital Asset Management) has become indispensable – it would simply not be possible otherwise.

Felix Wolff (Senior Technical Consultant at brix) impressively demonstrated, based on the customer showcases of Paul Ullrich and Haecky Import AG, that product data from different sources (the Akeneo PIM system, a separate price database or also from CELUM DAM metadata) together with the corresponding images can be exported to print and web publications (with a hyperlink to the shop) using Xactuell, some fully automatically.

We would like to thank our guests, customers and speakers for the successful event and are looking forward to welcoming some of you again at the next brix Breakfast Meetup.

For all those who could not be there or are otherwise interested in this topic, we are of course always available – please contact us, we are looking forward to meeting you.
